Sewing applications which are exposed to elevated temperatures require specialised thread, engineered to resist melting, degradation, and breakage. This is where high-temperature sewing thread becomes essential.
High temperature sewing thread is a type of thread designed to withstand extreme heat without melting or weakening. Unlike standard cotton threads, they are designed from materials which remain stable at elevated temperatures which assemble and repair thermal insulation systems, fire protection products and technical textile components.
Where high temperature sewing threads are used
Fire resistant clothing will use high temperature sewing threads, due to not melting as easily. Oven and furnace insulation, automotive and aerospace components, welding blankets and heat shields will also use high temperature sewing threads, due to the number of benefits it holds. These products need sewing threads which maintains strength under heat
High temperature sewing threads available at IC International
Kevlar Coated Stainless Steel
Kevlar is popular for its strength and durability when resisting heat. It doesn’t melt and can withstand temperatures up to 800 degrees, making it ideal for protective gear.
PTFE Coated glass
PTFE is highly resistant to heat, combined with PTFE coating to facilitate easier machine sewing. This material can withstand temperatures up to 230 degrees.
Nomex
Inherently flame retardant and heat resistant with a tough proactive coating which resists abrasion during the sewing process, withstanding heat up to 370 degrees. Rather than melting, Nomex chars when exposed to flames, helping maintain the integrity of seams in high risk environments such as motorsport and aerospace.
Bonded Nylon
Bonded Nylon is a tough coated thread with abrasion resistance, rot proofing and good tensile strength for lower temperature applications. This material can withstand heat up to 120 degrees.
Bonded Polyester
Bonded polyester is heavier duty for sewing operations. It is tough coated with abrasion resistance, rot proofing and exceptional tensile strength for lower temperatures. This material can withstand heat up to 120 degrees.
IC International offers an excellent range of industrial high temperature sewing threads, available to suit various different applications, with a specialisation in high temperature resistance. Offering a range of different sewing thread materials which have a range of temperature resistances from 120 degrees up to 800 degrees.
